i was enquiring if anyone knows the situation regarding mewp hire- is a proper training course required? would a company hire a mewp without, and what's situation regarding p.liability, etc? thanks

I,ve never been asked for proof of training or competence to hire out a mewp and we,ve had some big ones out in the past.

PL insurance is at your risk as with most standard British hire association terms and conditions unless they offer additional insurance. Also a major thing to consider is hired in plant insurance - you need to have the machine insured against fire theft and damage.....and if you cause an accident with it and tip it into a building etc etc. Considering the cost of a 30m mewp at around £90k plus or a crane at say £250k it,s worth factoring in. Always read the small print on the hire docket incase it hits the fan!

You can do two categories of MEWP (IPAF qualification) for less than £250 in one day so might aswell get certified!

thanks for replies- seen there is the cs47 (?)

, but i guess this is more to do with the chainsaw use from mewp, rather than for just the mewp itself
