Post Knocker

Nothing to do with the thread about building post knockers, but seen some horrible accidents with them, some bloke, typical farmer, held a post with his hand, the guy in cab on the controls released it and it hit the blokes hand, ripping the skin off his hand. was sick.

Always hate using them.

I would use a rope and pulleys instead of chains, if you go to a good agri supplier you can buy a conversion kit . In the kit you would get the rope and pulleys.

The difficult part of building one would be the sliding weight but not a massive task if you have access to a good steal supplier and a bit of machining.

my old knocker was real basic, 2.4m steel rsj with a plate welded in to. single acting ram with small diameter inner stancion, large diameter hydraulic hose and expansion spring to really pull the weight down, 300kg hammer weight really knocked them in well. also helps if you put a free flow return back into back axle or hydraulic tank coz if u go thru spool block it wont let fluid move quick enough

used one for livestock fencing, quarrane was mounted on the front loader, brilliant, and easy to use being loader mounted-had the front/rear tilt from the loader, and a ram on the knocker to tilt if tractor was on a gradient-that had 3strand not chains.

simmilar to this:

although this looks like a home made jobby, ours would knock sleepers in!
