still worth processing for this winter?

managed to split 40 cube this spring for this winter but ive already sold most of it.

Ive got plenty of fairly tidy lengths (for arb arisings) sitting in stacks.

 

Its been waiting for me to get round to processing it for anything up to 2 years.

 

Is it worth me getting in a processor to get as much done as poss for this year or should i leave it and do it next spring for the following winter?

 

Firewood hasnt been a market we have exploited in the past due to us not having the spare hours to get on top of it and produce some.

 

anyone used the Hakki 32xS + carry? as we can hire one in locally

yo dean, you got much spare time now?! 's gonna need splitting some time hey. can't see it being amazing dry by xmas, but you never know. we've still got some to split, but then we'll probably keep that bit drying until spring or later. unless things get very desperate! all the best.

If you were nearer you could hire my solar kilns for £1 per month per m3 and by Feb it should all be dry just at the time when others have run out.

Maybe you could find a local nursery prepared to do a similar deal.

Had been thinking of putting up polly tunnels as Ive got a bit of space - but as always ive concentrated on the arb work and run out of time.

might just process into a big heap on pallets so as not to mix it with the stuff in the shed and cover it for now ready to go in when its empty.

Their prices are on their website - though there not usually completely up to date.

 

Has anyone out there used the 2xs+carry?

We have a 2x and it struggles with stuff over 9". If you have a good fast vertical splitter I would get stuck in with that. If you have beech and syc it should dry by christmas especially if we get some sun and you leave it out. If we get the winter they are promising you will probably have the driest wood for miles around.

Simple really. 20 mtr x 7mtr wide straight sided polytunnel orientated North/South prevailing wind West/East. Both ends with open dutch frame doorways to allow maximum fork lift height.No Doors. Ridge pole 1mtr height difference front to back covered in UV stabilised clear plastic. Floor made of concrete 4mtr x 1mtr tongue & groove bog mats with lifting points arranged down centre of polytunnel which allows 6x 1.2 mtr wide containers to be stacked per mtr in the tunnel allowing 120m3 per tunnel. All IBC's handled by standard free lift fork lift
