I just love tinkering with, well, anything really.

at the momment i have a 028av and a 020t on the bench, both are getting a full strip, clean and replace all rubber and/or worn parts, pots cleaned and polished with new pistons and rings.

just done this to my 028super and its now good as new.

im keeping the 020t but the 028av will be for sale, hopping to get a 038super or magnum from the sale.

Does anybody know offhand how to get the oil pump off a 254xp?

I've taken the clutch/sprocket off and I'm presented with one obvious hex bolt, and 4 small and deep holes that are packed tight with crud. Are there bolts at the bottom of these holes?

Also, do I need to take the worm drive off the crank shaft before I can get the pump off?

As always, much gratitude for any help!!

Yes, the worm drive is pushed on and can be quite tight, the oiul pump is removed by pulling out all the screws, inserting three in the tapped holes and using them to push the pump out - got a service manual somewhere if it helps but is pretty simple once you have worked it out.

Spud has recently brought my old 066 back from the brink of death. Chemical clean of the cylinder, new piston to name but a few of the many high lighted problems, you just need to scroll back a few pages to see the saw in question.

Spud really went to town on it and kept me informed on each element of the rebuild and the reasons the saw failed in the first place.

I got the chance to fire it up today and ran its first tank through. My only regret is that I can not flesh out my adjectives of excitement with a long list of expletives of joy on this forum.

What can I say, it was ******* incredible!

It started on its second pull, I've had the saw for about 15 years and it's never done that!

To me at least it's like having a new saw, Thank you Spud, you are a very clever chap.

Cheers,

Si

I forgot to add, as an aside. Spud, I'm kicking myself for not asking you to fit a chain catcher whilst you had it. I've attached a pic, do you screw it to the av in the 'blue circled area'?

What screw/bolt would I need?

Cheers,

Si

Haha! Thanks so much for that Spud!

The years of crud were such that I had totally missed two hex bolts!! The build-up of filth behind the pump cover was beyond belief, but all working now and with no new parts! The best kind of fix!

This saw is the worlds dirtiest saw.

Thanks Si, it was a pleasure. We sorted the chain catcher out via PM but for the record, it attaches to the lower dog screw - a bit like the MS200T and others in this respect - pointed owner to the relevent parts list!

Hope the saw will earn it's worth now:thumbup:

No worries, it baffled me as well around three years ago:lol:

Cheers for that Spud,

I've been looking for an image of one fitted to put my mind at rest but all I can find are images of the roller type that fit between the lower dogs screw.

I've only the one dog, has anyone got the non roller chain catcher fitted to an 066? Can you post a pic for me please?

Cheers,

Si
