What's on your bench today?

A lot, about 1mm! Which is also damn difficult to do in a 3 jawed lathe!

Not being funny just curious, the OEM set up has circa 1mm squish and allows the removal of the 0.5mm gasket.

If your squish on the Hyway was too low or the piston was clouting the top of the cylinder without the base gasket then you would take off circa 0.5mm or less and would only do more if you were turning down the base as well?

What sort of compression are you getting on this setup Eddie?

Tbh, I didn't check it with the first piston I did (which snagged a ring and chipped the plating), but the 2nd piston I stuck in was chucking out around 180psi fresh. I'll have to grab it and check it soon. I tend not to use it as the 357 requires some pull to start after I dicked around with the timing, just for showing off!

Just a little change from pistons and things.

Today I found that I am never too old to learn. I have overhauled thousands of carbs, but somehow have never done a Zama RB. This one is on an Echo 265ES LR hedge cutter and see very few Echos for service in this area. Anyway, the RB is a Rotary Barrel carb like a Walbro WY but a bit more fiddly.

So I pulled this one down just like I would a Walbro, but did not notice the tiny roller shown in the pics, so I lost it. I did not know it had gone so I reassembled, but the barrel was now notchy to rotate.

A bit of googling revealed the problem, and luckily a carb kit includes a new roller.

I thought I would post my mistake so that others can learn from it, hope it helps someone.

Thanks Barrie, good info and the sort of part that is likely to shoot across the bench before falling in to a full bin:blushing:
