Update on my ongoing Huztl/Farmertec adventure for anybody with an otherwise non-viable broken saw...

 

359 with £20 pot and piston (including p&p, gasket and other bits and bobs) running at 160psi without a gasket. Again the pot looked less than promising, but put it together anyway since there was nothing to lose.

 

Been cutting (300-500mm conifer) with it today and it runs very well. Idles consistently. Tuned it rich(about 12.5k).

 

Interesting (to me). Haven't bothered with any Chinese pots/pistons for a good few years until recently, and I reckon the quality must have improved. Never saw compression like the never ones.

I just got a hyway cylinder kit for a 064 but I ordered genuine Stihl rings small end bearing and base gasket...

Hyway is considered quite posh these days I think! Also, made in Taiwan rather than China IIRC.

I've never seen a nikasil where the lining has flaked off through a seizure, only when a piece of debris or snapped ring has scored through it.

 

Indeed has anyone seen nikasil worn through by long use?

 

It's remarkable stuff, I am told it is only 4 thou thick and I seem to remember the smallest ridge a finger tip can sense is 1/2 thou.

 

In answer to the holes in Nikasil - yes, I have seen it on a couple of occasions where the piston has seized and ripped some of the plating off the bore - typiccally to the right side of the exhaust port for some reason!

 

I have only seen a handful of worn bores, one through ingress of dirt through a gauze air filter, the other through worn main bearings.

You need to see some power cutter cylinders, plating complely gone, only the alloy of the cylinder left, mix concrete dust with a drop of fuel hey presto lapping paste, now feed it into the the cylinder and rev the engine to 10,000 rpm.

The time has come when the workshop needed a good clean out and seeing as I will be going full time in the New Year, thought I had better get the tools sorted and in order. The compressor is now on the floor next to a big plastic container which will contain all the crap that used to be blasted all over the place.

 

Got an industrial extractor now - 700 cubic metre per hour which helps clearing the smoke:001_rolleyes:

 

A new big rubber mat is on order to keep the dirt off the shoes and all the tools are a bit more accesible - looking good IMO......not up to GardenKits gay workshop (he isn't of course) but getting there!

I need a tool wall, I've only got a 9x8 pent style shed and I kept my old top tool chest and it takes up to much room:thumbdown:
