They both are - especially when you forget to connect the fuel line to the 3120XP and drop start it 20 times:001_rolleyes::lol: burke:lol:

 

Abbey say your seal will be with me today:001_rolleyes: hope it will hit tomorrow:lol:

 

No worries :001_smile: so I need a new 15" bar for my saw but what one should I get:confused1: ????? And I was going to get an 18" as well for the odd big lumps....

Oregon Prolite or Sugihara for heavy use or a Microlite Pro for light work and greater speed!

I'm sure it was a prolite I got of rob for my 026, I like the look of the sugihara bars :lol:

I have had a problem with those bars on a 026, was heating the clutch up pulling the sprocket and cover out, you will need to ask Rob or Dan Earp about what the outcome was

Mines was ok I've now sold that saw to mull29:001_smile: it's for my 346 that mr spud has for porting:thumbup:

I am skilled at this now as I did each component on their own. I did remove the manifold but could not find any deterioration. I flexed it, examined closely. I could as you say fit one to try. But I don't fancy doing that, then doing the carb with a kit. Then it is something completely different and a write off. Lack of confidence and experience and without you helpful folk it would be without knowledge. I have rebuilt tractor transmissions that have failed and done heavier mechanical repairs. But small engines are an unchartered territory when it gets more complex for me.:001_huh:

They are normally obvious so doesn't sound like that's your issue then. :thumbup1:

Im making the assumption you have checked that the choke is moving the lever on the air filter and its choking properly? The other obvious check is to take the exhaust off and check the pistons not scored up so compressions down?

Just try one more thing for me. With the air filter off stick your thumb in the end of the carb so its fully choked and give it a few pulls. Make sure theres plenty of suction there and then check the plug to see if it got wet.

The saw stopped working suddenly as it ran. Was switched off I understand and then never ran again. The choke doesn't flip the air filter valve it doesnt reach. I thought maybe it was a filter that several models used but this one didn't need it. The lever is still on the choke/stop switch.

 

I did the thumb in carb inlet trick and it ran for a 2 seconds at most. I have given it back, but may get to see it tomorrow. Thanks Wisecobandit. Obviously you don't like being beat either.

Here we go, a bit of saw porn for Eddie:001_rolleyes:

 

 

 

I did tach the saw today - then found the recoil had jammed and a quick inspection showed the flywheel had come loose and was rubbing on the starter pulley:001_rolleyes::lol: I held off the auto vane rev limiter - boy that sounds flash for a flappy thing that closes the choke if it goes a bit fast:lol:

 

 

 

Anyway - held it off and adjusted the carb for 7500rpm and then set the autovane to kick in around the same - don't think I am too far off the mark in doing this.......am I Eddie????? First one I have done....ever!

Yes that's fine, you'd need to whip the vane off to get more tension for higher rpm. Pity that's a normal contra, not a super, although that's a non-OEM muffler on it, well it may have been OEM for an 075 once...

Have you tried the contra against the 3120?

Was it the whole flywheel that was loose? Or just the starter cup?

And I thought you'd done an 070? It's the same saw effectively, minus a decompression valve and half decent air filter

NOOOOO... I don't do being beaten. Ive spent many hours on things others have given up on where labour prices would far outway that of the saw. :blushing: BUT it may sound strange but after a day at work I find it a kind of way of relaxing :confused1:

 

AFAIK they all use that choke set up and never seen 1 with a butterfly in the car or whatever. The air filter can fall apart inside. They can be taken apart and normally fixed tho.

The lever just flips up a plug to restrict air into the carb. Should be able to check with the filter in your hand just push the lever and you will see the plug partly block the intake hole. Maybe that's a route worth quickly checking to make sure its working and not fallen apart.

 

To be fair I had to change a carb on an 026 last week which sounds a similar problem, no fuel til I plugged the intake with my thumb to increase the vaccum pull on the fuel. I cleaned the carb 5-6 times, aswell as fitting a gasket/diaphragm kit, reset the needle in different positions, even ended up blowing it thru with an airline etc and still nothing yet when I swapped it for a good carb it ran fine.

Im starting to have confidence in the cheap Chinese carbs for this sort of thing where the saw isn't worth a fortune. £13-14 for a new carb or £7-8 for a gasket kit not knowing if it will fix it..... I would rather pay the extra fiver and not worry about it.
