Today's wind up is a Stihl HS81R hedgetrimmer which will only start on full throttle then is impossible to get a nice idle on. It basically idles with the blades cycling then as you try to reduce the idle speed it goes from blades running to engine stopped with no middle ground. The throttle cable was replaced last year so is it possible that the plastic quadrant bit that it runs round has been disturbed when it was done? :confused1:

Not likely. They will only drop down to where the screw is holding the throttle open, won't go any lower.

Sounds more like a low side on the carb problem. Give it a good clean out, the usual way.

Also try it without the air filter in place.

Ms200t done today, tweaked and 020 carb on. Running like stink. And that's all today, really couldn't do much more. Just wanted to go home.

Sounds like it may be a clutch problem rather than an idle problem. If the clutch is not disengaging then you wont get an idle.

Check clutch springs and shoes.

Thanks, will do. Would that mean that the drag would be why it needs throttle to start it? :001_smile:

We had an MS170 with a broke chainbrake handle and a 260 with a blown piston. So we took the chainbrake handle off the 260 and put it on the 170. Bit of plastic cutting and it works. Will get a picture of it. Think of Jeremy Beadles hand and ya get the idea lol.
