How much are you going to take off the bottom Rich, very interested in how much you think you can get away with!

 

I don't into at the moment spud as I havnt measured what the squish is. Need to get that solder in there first. See what that. Comes out with then decide from there.

Well, if you take any more than 0.1mm off, you will need to cut a new squish band or do a pop up piston:001_rolleyes:

Yeah more of exploration. Was going to see what the solder read first.

 

The last one I did without the gasket and the solder was still reading 0.35mm. So with no base gasket it still had room to remove some.

 

But then others I have removed the gasket and the piston slaps the pot top.

Today - I have the mudguard and infeed chute from my chipper on my bench.

It's starting to look lovely again!

 

Just waiting for a new mudguard to arrive.

For the record, Ford Signal Green is a good match to GM green.

HELP - 011 on my bench - been slightly shafted on an ebay deal and opened saw up to find Phelon 10988-01 flywheel missing several fins. Ran it but vibrates like hell and engine overheats after a minute so needs to be changed. Details in pic - any leads of where to get one would be appreciated - very happy to pay if someones got one in the corner.

 

Is Phelon still going?

The dipper arm will not pull in to load the bucket, it has lost all power. It works ok when there is no resistance. The other rams still seem to have plenty of power. I have replaced the oil filters.

 

First set the dipper against an immovable object when pulling in. Just take the hose off the piston end, run it into the tank, start up and pull the dipper in, if oil gushes out without movement it's a seal gone.

Cheers Spud that's a lot to think about - really appreciated - Question if you only did the exhaust and not the inlet will there be any gain at all? is it 50:50 in terms of gains - exhaust / inlet?

 

i'll bear this in mind - (was possibly gonna go down the dremel and a bag of hope route):

"don't think it is easy, don't just attack the ports with nothing but hope, look at how wide your piston skirt is, look at where the rings end on the piston and personally would start by widening the exhaust and inlet followed by a muffler mod and then tune the carb based on what the engine is now doing"

 

To get the full gains it is all about tackling each area, I recently did a 395xp and the owner didn't want it too loud so I backed off opening the muffler up a lot so the result was boggy and was a different beast once I drilled the baffle out!

 

You really need to see what is left by the manufacturer and do what you can!

 

The results on what gives the best results depends which part is restricting the flow the most!
