What's on your bench today?

Today I had the onerous task of testing my outboard. It was playing up last season due to the float valve rubber tip having swelled up after the winter layup. Must have been due to stale petrol (I know, I know, i should have known better, just never got round to draining it.)

Sorted it out at the end of last summer by replacing the inlet valve but never got the chance to test it until today. I did of course store it last winter with Aspen.

It fired up immediately on the hose last night, so we filled the tank right up with Aspen and left for Fowey at 7am. On the water by 9am and out to sea. It runs like a dream on the Aspen and for the first time in my boating life there was no smell of petrol drifting around the boat.

As an Ex lifeboat cox I live in dread at having to call for help myself:biggrin:

Oh we have an ex cox down my way that has actually called us to help him. Only problem was he called the LOM on his phone. So it was a self launch, he has NEVER lived it down.:lol::lol::lol:

I think aspen is a good product. There is a market for it. Commercial forestry may not be one of then due to price.

The outboard market may be worth a look. Go to a boat show and just ask around, take a leaflet or even some aspen. But from a boaters point I would do a search on aspen and that would start throwing up the saw issues where the saw failed due to the lines and diaphragms, this may be a downer as reliability is major on water, we all know that its due to the old fuel than the aspen but they won't. Unless it doesn't on outboard engines.

I think some research will have to be done into if its going to work out properly without any hassle in the engines.
