Does a 026 pot and piston fit onto a 024?

It is totally impossible to put an 026 cylinder on an 024.......unless your Martin (Burrell) he ha done one and it works fine - Martin, tell him what he needs to know - I think it involves wearing your underpants over your trousers whilst playing in your shed:lol:

first thing do u no what lenght of stoke ur 024 has is it a 024 super

024 has a 30mm stroke

026 has a 32mm stroke

024 super has a 32mm stroke

 

my 024 av has a 30mm stroke iv fitted a 026 (44mm) pot and piston to it and it works fine but u need to mood the pot 7hope that helps u out it u need more help on the matter PM me or spud im shore we can help u out

Fired up the ported 064 and did a trial cut, didn't flinch or drop revs, lots of wallop, noise etc, all good.

 

Stripping an MS200T to sell on, the side cover isn't stipped too often judging by most I get in, below is what they should look like and the two arrows point to the typical parts that break - a double ended cast tie bar that often fractures and a leaf spring that often breaks, mostly down to lack of cleaning and the excessive pressure this puts on the components.

What acid is it thatsd used on the cylinders to clean the ally transfer off?

 

Also anyone have a parts manual for an 024/026? i've replaced the back handle on one and need to sort the tank breather out, and there seems to be a few different ones :)

 

 

Also i recently stripped a saw i bought, 024. It has 110psi comp. I whipped the cylinder off, looked at the piston which didn't look to bad, couple of small marks that also ran through the ring etc. The cylinder walls seem'd ok but on top of the piston, the surface was very rough, there were deposits on the top of the cylinder near the spark plug and deposits in the sides of the exhaust ports..... Whats this? Also upon inspection (before strip) i noticed the "H" screw was wound all the way in.... :thumbdown: so thats why i stripped expecting a seize

 

deposits were hard metalic type deposits, but couldn't spot any chips out of any part etc.... no indentations in piston top or cylinder...

The acid you need is any that will dissolve aluminium, I use Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) also known as Muriatic acid which is an older name for it.

 

Your 024 sounds like it has seized and someone has fitted a new piston without clearing the aluminium transfer - this MUST be cleaned off otherwise it will take the rings out very quickly - if you look at yours, you will see small grooves in them which has been caused by the aluminium transfer.

 

I have shown before and after images of cylinders I have cleaned up on this thread.

 

Some would fit a chinese kit but my experience of these isn't great, generally lower compression, over tempered brittle rings, poor bevel on ports, bad piston to cylinder tolerances etc.

 

I always try to clean the OEM cylinder and fit a good quality piston - the Meteor ones are Italian made and come with Caber rings used by many manufacturers....lecture over:001_rolleyes:

 

The H screw all the way in was almost definitely the route cause for the issue and not corrected when the new piston was fitted - the type of guy doing these sorts of repair say that this sort of repair is easy:001_rolleyes::lol:

 

Good luck with it - just make sure that the cylinder is 100% otherwise you will risk the new piston - you may get away with using the piston with new OEM rings - choice is yours but know what I would do.

If a saw is dying after a cut (start, WOT, close throttle, stall) unless the throttle is feathered, would I be right in thinking that the low carb setting is probably a bit too lean?

It (254xp) is running almost perfectly, and will idle fine when started and after a feathery bip (would not attend a Feathery Bip gig!) after cutting, but if I drop straight from WOT to zero, it stalls about 50% of the time. It's not the idle setting, so I'm thinking it's probably a little too lean on the low screw, does that sound about right?
