Got a clean Husky 41 in, a pig to start, cleaned and adjusted the carb and will see if it is any better once back together again.

 

Started rebuilding an 026 that has been sitting on my shelf way too long. A member on this site wanted it but haven't heard from him for a while - anyone want a rebuilt 026:001_rolleyes:

 

Cylinder cleaned up, new Meteor piston fitted, it is pulling 180psi - nice:thumbup: pressure check and vac check were both fine.

On a saw of this size, 145psi is a reasonable to good reading - the scores on the piston are either down to carbon or a small seize - if there is aluminium on the cylinder, it is the latter.

 

Sounds like it is cutting OK and with that compression it should work OK.

Currently got a very sick FS450. No matter which way we store it (level, hanging from engine or from cutting head with engine supported) it leaks fuel direct through the carb into the engine and then into the exhaust. One of my colleagues started it yesterday with about 1/4 tank of fuel in the exhaust which caused a fuel spill in a gravel car park. Today we went to start and because the decompression button is being a PITA we start it with it without pushing it in. Today somehting went "phut" around it and it has been running very very rough all day. Hence why it has gone in for some work. Since we've had it (2 years) it has had 14 tommy screws, 2 handle clamps, new throttle cable, 4 new air filters, 1 fuel filter, new flywheel after the old one snapped a fin (don't ask how) and a new gearbox. Most councils would have thrown it out but we have kept at it.

 

We found out the cause of "phut", poor running, decomp button not coming out when it should. We have a cracked piston. Its going to cost us 40 quid for he piston but they have replaced everything esle on the engine to try and find the cause. Aparentli it started with 120psi at full stroke but soon started to drop when the crack opened up. Going to be about 200 quid all in.:blushing:

Just received a Spud special 200T that he sourced for me. Its a few years old but good condition, has been fettled by Spud and runs a dream and all for less than 200T's seem to be selling for on t'ebay.

Had a John Deere JX63 mower on the bench today. It had apparently hit a 'small stone', and now would not start.

 

Now, its not unusual for this B&S engine to shear its flywheel key when the blade has a clout. This one had not only sheared the key but shattered the flywheel, something I rarely see.

 

New flywheel and everthings good.
