Got the latest MS200T licked - pulled the carb appart and found a loose welch plug in the diaphragm chamber - sealed it back in, rebuilt the side cover and fired it up, all good:thumbup:

You may remember a week ago I had a Stihl 064 in bits and had stated that the aftermarket piston previously fitted had been stamped with an arrow facing the wrong way. the second one I have seen like this.

 

The ring ends had eventually snagged the inlet port and thankfully let loose before doing and real damage.

 

The new piston arrived on Saturday, I always try to fit a quality piston if they are available and here is the picture clearly showing the ring retaining pins facing the wrong way on the old piston:001_rolleyes:

As an addition to my previous post, one difference I have noticed between Chinese pistons and the better aftermarket ones is the machined inside flanks of the gudgeon pin retainer where it contacts the small end.

 

I have hilighted the areas below, on the cheaper piston, the flanks are non machined and formed by the casting, the other one has been machined to size. On some cheaper pistons, I have had to open up this area to get them to fit over the small end!

 

You can probably also see that the casting is of better qulity on the new piston.

Thought I would take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Christmas. Thanks to all those that have sent saws in and had them serviced this year, including the ones that ended up in France, Isle of Mull and Isle of Man!
