As soon as I get hold of it from under a load of crap I got a Yamaha gt380 bike to sort out. It's got a good layer of dust on it.

 

The casing says it's 1500cc. But I'm sure this is the oil capacity. As after talking to a few mates it should be a 380cc, a nice 3 pot engine.

The model number gives it away, bit like a chainsaw, the model numbers relate to the cc

Yeah, just threw me off a bit as it's stamped on the fins. So first thought was if someone had changed the engine in the past. But then quickly threw it out. I would even want to touch the throttle at 1500cc. :lol:

 

Would end my bike riding carer very quickly. :lol:

The difference in size between a 380 cc bike and 1500cc bike is also normally quite obvious:) (can't off-hand remember any 1500 cc yamaha's anyway?)

 

(I've an R1200GS - once dropped, never forgotten!)

That's why it went out. It is a very nice, very big block. It's not something the owner gets into, he like his very old trials bikes, this one came with a few others and he put it in the back of the shed and I uncovered it. Just need to wangle my way into getting it off his hands.

GT380 is a Suzuki isn't it ? Yamaha's nearest was the RD350. They fetch serious money in decent condition, old strokers are sought after these days.

Yes, The GT380 is a three cylinder Suzuki, air cooled triple, bit of a collectors item now, they did a number of triple in different types as did Kawasaki - look up Mach3 750:blushing:

 

The closest Yamaha was the RD400 twin!

I was more into trails with the KL250. XT250 never got the bike I loved. XT500 still looking ! Like rocking horse poo

I remember when the new RD250 and RD350 came out

I believe it was down to these bikes that the regs changed.

You could jump of your moped when u where 17 and get on a 100 plus Rd . Bringing back some good memories .

Just read this back and I think I'm sounding old!

Those RD'S were a little crazy then they hit the YPVS on them and a 21hp 125cc bike when everyone else had 12hp, great days!

 

The RG500 and RD500 were pretty special,not seen one for years!

What was your first bike ? Mine 50cc gilera tiger cross (i miss that bike)
