hello dorset logger

what kind of ax you after? heavy maul?

look google for "large splitting maul" you'll see good one from oregon, bahco, stihl (spaltfix).

go local fencing shop your area or tractor dealer or chainy saw shop, they're tons of axes around.

we have a grunsfors large spitting ax. it's good looking, and good for easy splitting logs, even one handed once the bloods woken up in the system. but pricy, and you'll want something bigger for sure.

you can get two stihl etc axes for price of one grunsfors....

we couldn't handle the price of grunsfors splitting maul, but maybe it's better than the others???

If you are looking for a top quality axe, then the Ochsenkopf (OX-HEAD) range of axes is also worth considering. Manufactured in Germany to a superior standard, these axes feature the patented Rotband-Plus system which protects the axe handle and thereby extends the lifetime of the axe. If you need any further info, please let me know. :)

The gransfors splitting maul is a lovely tool, but TBH i find it a little lightweight and the handle a tiny bit short for anything a bit challenging. Fine on straight grained and on any softwoods, but I find myself struggling a bit on the gnarly stuff.

But then again I only really bought it as a treat, not really to use......

That one in Yvonnes post looks awesome...

tommer, do you mean grunsfors splitting maul, or large splitting axe? coz we got the "axe", shorter handle, quite light. but their "maul" was quite a bit heavier and long handle. and about 90 quid! the large axe was 65?

yve, the Ochsenkopf - is that what stihl paints their logo on? sure we got one looks like that, think it had spaltfix and Ochsenkopf both scribed on the head. good ax for easy rounds, though. we got the lighter one. s'good.
