3 blokes with chipper + getting rid of chip etc. How much do you reckons a fair price for a days work.?

Been doing this a fair few years now and beginning to think i'm too cheap - get 9/10 jobs i quote for ( in a small area - south west eng) and running costs etc going up daily beginning to think its time to charge more for work!

All depends what the local competition is charging.

 

If you've been doing this a fair few years, then you will know what your fixed and variable overheads are by now, add a % on for profit and that's your rate.

I guy offered us 285.00 a day sub contracting for 2 men and a chipper last week, stuff that, 400.00 minimum subbing. 5-600 direct to client.

Without knowing anything about your local rates and competition, I'd say, that if you land 90% of the jobs you quote on, you are quoting too low. Especially considering quite a few decide not to have the job done at all (or doing it themselves), after getting quotes in. I'd say you should raise your rates about 20%, and then see how that affects the acceptance rate.

If you are getting 90% of your bid's, one of Two things are occurring. Your working for your customers and your help. Or your covering your expenses and have little or nothing left for yourself at the end of your work week?. If after all of you fixed and variable cost are met and you have actual PROFIT to call your own at the end of the work week, that's great!, other wise sit down and review all of your cost/expenses. You may be surprised how much you actually net every week after your expenses. Good hunting.

Grumpy, I am curious how you came to that amount with out knowing about any fixed or variable cost associated with ptrinder day to day business operations?
