Honda CRF100

My son olly is looking at getting a motorbike (he is nearly 11 BTW) to mess around on about the farm. We are told that the CRF100 would be a good machine.

Can any of you biker knowledgeable types out there offer any advice or info on this or similar machines, and even possibly if you have or know of one for sale?

A crf150 small wheel would be a better bike, the crf100 is a bit of a lame horse in my opinion for what its worth. Then if he want to go to any proper tracks when he is more used to it he can.

You'd be better with an 85cc 2stroke tom imo, much easier to maintain than a 4stroke.

if its just to mess about on why not a pit bike? start at 110cc . look at demon or stomp bikes. but all depends on if he wants to start racing too.

pit bike is a good option tom.

He'll soon be exploiting a small four stroke to its limits. Maybe a proper 85cc crosser would be better. Easy to rebuild too. Depends how big he is too. My son at 14 was riding my 450 but was a bit of a handful:001_smile:

If he aint ridden a bike before a proper crosser will scare him witless,start slow and build up to a faster bike,pit bike makes alot nicer sound too,not so neighbour unfriendly,take him to st blazey off road,he will love it.

I reckon a trip down there is in order.

Whatever he gets will be getting a proper silencer too....

Kx 80 was my first bike, as long as you have an open big flat space to learn on he will be fine, me and most of my mates learnt to ride on that bike... Top end the 80's and 100 mx are pretty lame still, but boy are they fun! We were lucky as kids because the farmer opposite went bust and in the process he said we could ride this set aside right out side my front Door, great for learning on and meeting up for green lanes... Not at that age we were supposed to be on them though , happy days!
