just double check flow rate of digger and flow rate of log splitter spool valve

 

also when powering with a digger you will need a way of making the hydraulic circuit live without having to sit in the cab and press the button

We have just bought a small splitter (WL10) from Fuelwood in Warwick, and have been powering it from our JCB telehandler and also our 18 tonne hiab lorry. We discovered that because the flow rate of the JCB and the hiab is greater than that of the splitter it causes an overheating problem with the pipes on the splitter. You have to be careful, otherwise you can damage the seals and we have had to turn it off every hour or so for about 20-30 minutes to allow the pipes to cool down. Apparantly you can buy a device that returns the fluid back to the JCB/hiab and prevents the overheating.

I hope that I'm not trying to teach my granny to suck eggs, just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't know.

If it's a pedal operated breaker, just put a brick on the pedal. Job done!

i think a volvo digger has a button you perate with ya thumb so maybe some gaffer tape will work :thumbup:

whats the difference between a breaker circuit and auger circuit?

I have both settings on mine, surely both are just squirty oil which is what is required

 

I assume breaker is the one for a splitter

I guess an auger can rotate both ways so the flow can be put down either pipe, where as a breaker and a splitter only require a pressure and return.

The return line when in breaker mode should go direct back to tank (rather than through the spool valve) so there is less back pressure.

I work a splitter off a Yanmar B08 (.8tonne) and it works fine, maybe anything bigger than say a 3t machine may provide too much oil then you will have overheating problems.

If powering from a supply that is too powerful you need a proportional control splitter.

 

That will lower the flow so stop over heating or over action of the pressure release valve.
