Alien Spawn - or something for the Missus?

Think I saw the same things last week (have put some pics of them on a thread in the fungi pictures bit) but the ones I saw didn't go black at the top like yours did- are they a different sort or do some change colour and some not?

Katie I'm pretty sure what you saw were just a later stage of the same species as mine.

 

The mesh ribs of the cap at first get a green/grey slime covering which contain the spore.

 

 

It's then that they're at there foullest smelling and attract the flies which help distribute the spore.

 

Clever fung this one, though don't last long.

Ah ok, thank you! For some reason I assumed they became black and slimy instead of starting off like that and turning to white. Yes they didn't seem to last long, the one I took photos of stayed the same for a couple of days then was pretty dried out the day after that.

i kinda fell over them running around looking for planted trees to check and clear the vegatation from. there were a few more around the wood but i was gettin busy and didnt have time to take any more photos.

i have been looking out for fungi and there are loads out there but my phone camera needs an upgrade.
