Wow, The expression I use here in the states "As tough as pulling hens teeth" sounds like it's origins are from your quoted expression. When really describing a tough task at hand I use this expression. I did read a while back ago about the mutant chickens I believe from Asia as well. Glad we got that all sorted out.

Thought ducks had a small row of serrated ridges (like teeth) on the lower beak, that's why I said kind of.

Am maybe wrong, and your run of the mill hen has no teeth well none that I have ever kept had.
