Thats a really nice Photo!

Are the Red Woods at risk of being clear cut?

No real threat of that now. So much redwood land is protected parks. State and National parks.

And I think that some of the private land holders of old redwood forest are leaning more now to selective harvesting.

Recent research shows that the oldest redwoods put on more wood growth per year than young trees, so it's advantageous to stretch-out the lives of the big ones and thin smaller redwoods for long-term increases.

LOL

Was back in the same park this past week, and took photos in another area.

Here is a really groovy looking redwood, but there's probably a 100% chance this pic would not be selected as a finalist next year in 2012

Girth of which trunk? :001_smile:

Okay ... the height I could find ... 345 feet / 105 meters

The girth is a guesstimate using another photo I have looking straight on. At it's widest, it looks to be about 20 feet / 6 meters, from side to side.

It's trunk is somewhat elliptical, so probably 4 meters the other way.

nice photo,amazing trees, voted

There are also some amazing trees worldwide, even if not quite so big.

I think it would be nice if there were more in the way of a worldwide or countrywide photo contest for trees too.
