Hey,

I'm a gardener stroke handyman but if I had a pound for every time someone asks if I can remove a tree or lop it I'd be a rich man,so I'm thinking of branching out (Punn) You've twigged it (Punn) I'm a joker....................................................................

Cut a long story short I've done my cert and now I want to buy a small saw, nothing to heavy or big, gotta cut up to 8/10 inch

Been looking at MS171 180 200t etc gotta be compact but powerful, what do you think about ebay?

Appreciate any guidance

Thanks Guys

A 200T IS ILEGAL FOR GROUND USE, however if it is availible as a rear handled version simply called the ms200 without the t on the end, this has just been replaced with the ms201, if not look at a ms240,ms241,ms261 0r my favorate saw being the husqvarna 346xp

A 200T IS ILEGAL FOR GROUND USE,

No it isn’t, there is no law prohibiting the use of a top handled saw on the ground

But the HSE are definitely against it. They are also dead against the commercial use of petrol driven chainsaws without training

Personally I'd go for a 241 or 261 because they're "pro" saws. Built to work, all the time. and I know you suggested some smaller saws, but it's always nice to have a bit of extra power just in case. The 201 will prob be a nice saw to use considering the 200, but more expensive and less powerfull, more of an expert saw for more frequent use perhaps.

If you just want a saw for ocasional use, the 180 was really rather good and I have one that just goes on and on and on.... (not sure about it's latest resurrection though)

Good luck.

Depends on how much dosh you have spare and if you buy new or used. Many saws on ebay have typically worn sprockets, need carb work or if non runners, have been seized.

Top ground saws - Husky 346XP is about the best, the MS260 is pretty good, if you have less dosh but like a bit of power, I like the Husky 350 or 345, they are pretty good value, good balance and really rip. MS200T - only use if you are an experienced climber and NOT a good choice for what you want - the rear handled version is a different matter.

On a real budget, the 141 Husky and MS170/180 are decent budget saws but you wont get the same cutting performance as the 350/345 as mentioned above.

If you get stuck PM me - have a few saws ready to go or have others that can be made ready.

MS200 seem to be rare, think I'm gonna go Husky 346............200t top handle puts me off, especially if I get a kick, less stable because your hands are too close together. I've found a 200 rear handle on ebay but it's very vague and no effort to describe it's life so far !!!

Someone's offered me a 346 for around the 250 mark so I'll probably take that.
