These are both Fistulina Dan.

 

The light coloured one is just a younger bracket prior to morphing into the usual form associated with the species.

The pores mostly show first during development followed by the red top of the cap.

No, I never really had the time to have a look at the trees on the campus sadly.

 

To dark when I got there and too 'groggy' in the morning to do it justice.

Some very fine trees there.

 

Apparently there's a rumour going round that they had some of their Id tags listed incorrectly.

I went for a 3/4 hour run about the campus every morning before conference. Firstly it wasnae me, secondly no hood, thirdly although I was stopping at every labelled tree, I was just trying to breathe, not switching labels. Fourthly, there was NOBODY else around. I would have spotted any label-switchers. But the fun that could have been had, wish I'd brought my pliers.
