In this video Brian new Chairman of the ATF talks about beech at Ashridge park, check out the big one toward the middle.

A truly ancient beech, and I would take anyone to see it, just give me a shout.

Surely Brian is contradicting himself a tad regarding the engraving.

Fair point that the American graffiti is culturally & historically important, but how is that really any different from the second 'vandalised' tree & the last old pollard.

I'm confused at his point over this.

I'll profess to not being a forester, but 300 years old for that first maiden, really ?

Last ones a stunning old tree, not ever stumbled upon that.

What else have you come across on her Tony ?

I found some info on the site where the tree is situated.

The woodland at Middlewood, at the north east corner of the site, is located

on the site of Worsley New Hall, built by the 1st Earl of Ellesmere in 1840-45,

and the terraced gardens which were constructed in conjunction with the Hall

and laid out by William Nesfield. Under the care of some very well respected

head gardeners the gardens became well established, were regularly the

subject of press articles, and were widely visited by the aristocracy and Queen

Victoria. The Hall was abandoned after the second world war, subsequently

demolished, and the gardens fell into decline.

There is no info on the ancient tree hunt website about this tree.
