clear felling valley, what to charge?

Recommended Posts

I doubt anyone would be able to tell you the best way to approach it unless they have walked the site as well. 500 acres is a big site and would need to be looked at carefully. Only thing i can say is if you need any cutters for more than a week or so i would give you my services for £100 a day plus expenses ;)

good luck

thats a hell of a lot of timber, how many hand cutters do you have at your disposal?? want an extra pair of hands

seriously though what about something like a tigercat harvester or there was one that had 4wheels that could be indepedantly leveled (i think loglogic or someone was importing them) so you can sit across the slope level in the machine if the timber wasnt huge.

How does a person gain experience of quoting something a little different to their norm? By going out and having a bash at it, maybe asking for a little help from his peers? Isnt that why we are on this forum? Until a couple of weeks ago, I hadnt dealt with a particular aspect of this job, let alone worked out costings for various unknowns to me. Did I walk away and leave it to someone with prior knowledge? No, I agonised over every detail for many hours, made a multitude of calls, and tried to back-up my plans, and luckily it worked out (sort of!)

So maybe, just maybe, it would be helpful to share now and again, instead of a put-down.

Agreed. I didnt mean to sound so negative. Certainly didnt mean to be a put down.

As you just stated though, when dealing with the unknown you deliberated for hours, made countless phone calls etc etc. You Didnt post a thread on the internet saying you didnt have a clue what you were doing and could everyone on here do the hard work for you!

I probably didnt mean to put "leave it to someone else" in hindsight. I agree with you entirely that advice and friendly help is why we are here so maybe it was just the way the opening post read that made me reply in the way I did. Apologies to Jack.

Good luck with the Job mate. Could be a blinder if you pay your cards right:thumbup1:

Are all the larch diseased??

Work out a realistic price per ton / cube and take it from there.

TD Tree & Land Services Ltd.

work back the way, ask the Mill how much they pay per ton and how long that price will stay. Call haulage and ask the same. Then you know how much it is both at the mill and road side, you can use both those prices to negotiate either of them up or down.

Then its forwarding, winching, felling, plus you need to think how long its going to take you to price this up. Then your insurance, overdraft fees, safety kit etc etc. :001_smile:

Then times it by 3 because you will of missed half of it out because you wont know about the other things until you are a broken man at the end of the job:lol:
