MS201T - chain tension

I'm really happy with My 201 you can feel it cut through the wood faster with less effort. It feels so much better to hold so I'm happy

well, after a couple of weeks constant use, I have to say I'm very impressed with this saw. The chain tensioning issue seems to have sorted itself out..just a case of running in I guess.

The pick up on the revs is very different from 200T, which takes a bit of getting used to. There is a lot more power, which helps when cutting bigger wood and when 'chasing' cuts through during section felling, again, this takes a bit of getting used to, I have been 'over-cutting' quite a bit!.

I'm using less fuel, there is less vibration and the air filter is staying much cleaner. I'll be interested to see how it fares after another 6 months of graft. Husqvarna are going to have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to beat this saw!

I got one of Stihl's new offerings at the Arbshow. I noticed when the saw picks up on the throttle, in acts and sounds like the chain is too tight, even when set much looser that I'd normally use it. I've tried filling the plastic blocks on the side plate/body down and removing one of them to no avail. I got the chance to check out a mates 201T yesterday and his has the same symptoms. Is this just down to the saw design?...once the revs pick up its not a problem, but I'm wondering if this is putting strain on the clutch when running up?....

 

We found this when using the ms201t with a 14 inch bar . Solution .Set the chain so it can be just pulled round and turn the oil up full. keep the revs up full. and it cuts fine . Not so sure about the chisel chain though .

I am still using mine on standard settings but barely uses any oil.

I was going to look at turning the oil up tomorrow

So it just needs running in then? thats a relief:thumbup1:

I guess i might hold off on stocking up on 200s for a bit yet.

As above, about 10 tanks through the 201 now and the chain tension issue has disappeared. Not had a chance to take the cover off to see what might have worn down to free the chain up but I will before long.

 

Power delivery is different but there is a bit more there and with the new chains makes a big difference.

 

Don't like the new scabbards, still not sure what that is all about and the raised fastener for the air filter cover is waiting to be broken off

 

I would buy another though
