Air bags or leaf springs?

Maybe, like me, he doesn't have the right license..so he'd need C and then C+E simply to drive a slightly larger truck and tow the same chipper...which annoyingly is no different to driving a 3.5tonner and a chipper:thumbdown:

I am after info on the pro's & con's of fitting bags as opposed to springs.

 

The root I decide to take is based upon reply's I get as nobody I know has air bags fitted.

 

I can drive a 7.5 but don't want the hassle of plates yet.

 

I will look into all the other aspects of uprating the class when I have an idea that this will be cost effective to do as the 1st step.

 

While on about it, if & is it a classification rise to 4 ton dose this mean brake uprating & plate tests ect. All of which I am trying to avoid if poss.

 

I didn't have the £ to buy a larger motor at the time I got this one. Also most of my jobs were small enough to cut down on the back with hire of myself as a subi climber most of the time to firms. I have found that 959 kg of chip ain't alot.

 

Any time an over loaded motor drives about they not only risk huge fines (to the driver!) anyone who drives employed or other wise is liable & also run the risk of insurance invalidation! Plenty of employers out their turning a blind eye to their employes pocket & license endorsements I would think if caught driving over weight.

Not that I haven't & most likely still do..

I'm pretty sure you'll struggle to get a 3.5t iveco up-plated unless it came out of the factory as a higher class and has been downrated to 3.5t. We looked at both off the shelf 3.5t and downrated ones and they seemed to be completely differnt vehicles , though I may be wrong.

 

Vosa aren't stupid, they have a good idea of what a certain vehicle "should" be able to carry if they can see what's in it.

 

Once they get their teeth into you they tend to keep coming looking

I was under the impression that the chassis are over engineered for a 3.5ton, hence the heavy ulw.

 

It makes sense though.

 

Was just hopeful that this way could be a cheap way of doing things.

 

Will keep looking into it for the mo.

 

Or its barn doors n springs/airbags for me:001_rolleyes::lol:
