Logging/forestry contractors in the UK?

Plent of forest of sole forestry companies out there. Few members on this forum are/have been forestry contractors.

There are at least 3 in cornwall alone running harvesters, and we are the least wooded county in the country.

Interesting Tommer, I thought Cambridgeshire was always regarded as the least wooded county & that you had plenty of trees down there.

It may not be the official least wooded county, but we dont have many for certiain. The wind and salt make for that.

Thee are still quite a few out there round us but getting less as they retire and there's not really that much of a next generation following up behind - something to do with it being far too much like hard work

Maybe on good going where the woods have been looked after and are clean, but round us there's not that much that a harvester can tackle, plus there's never likely to be a harvester that can replace a man and a saw in big hardwood, not going to happen.

 

However many harvesters there may be in the future, there'll always be a need for a good man on a saw in the woods.
