This is one we did today I dont know exactly how long it has been dead but it was dead 5 years ago. I am not looking to start one of those endless argument threads but I'm genuinely interested to see what you guys would do with dead trees.

id climb it sure, but branch walking would be limited, it would largely depend on the targets than anything else.

Definately not, I'd of mewp'd it or felled it.

 

Some flatten shrubs and damaged lawn is repairable from either mewp or fell.

 

If neither was an option I'd of got PeteMcSheff in to climb it

Its still got all the little twigs so is fine!!

 

If your still not sure, just watch it for a while and if a fat pigeon lands on a twig and it don't snap you know your OK

Probably a good indicator Huck, the roots, you would think, being damp would rot away and decay first, but they contain some prservative chemical thingy and can stay intact well after the thin branches (I think)

If theres no other option/access for mewp etc..then yes.

Quickest safest way to allow for the fell, drop the side stems off and pull it over. How much room is there..??..how did you do it..??

All the fine twigs were off it but there were some 3cm thick ones left. I made thisd mistake last year climbing a dead birch, it still had really finer twigs on it so i climbed right to the top tied in and came down to cut off the first branch. It snapped of very early and when it hit the deck exploded into millions of tiny pieces. I was a lot more cautious after that and lowered my anchor.
