With all the extra money that is made by going at things 100mph, you can afford a few cheap belts:thumbup:

As a rule of thumb 10hp per inch is adequate

 

Modern machines with stress control can get away with a lot less.

 

So 245hp less, lets say 45(for the sake of round numbers) in mechanical loss through the gearbox leaves you with about 200hp at the output shaft. Your chipper could get away with half of that.

Mine did have no stress, but the spool block went buggered and I put a cheap pattern one on, so no more stress control.

 

Its not a problem as me and my groundie know the chipper well and have no problem controlling it.

Excellent. Thanks! Know anything about vee-belt transmissions and why they're suitable for tow-behind chippers?

I like the V belt design in general, especially now, after reading this thread! I am in the process of adding my hydraulic feed system from my CH140HF to an older x3 V-belt PTO driven CH150 from Valby/Farmi.

 

I would much rather be running the V-belt system if I have the choice.
