Swedish candles---- what am I doing wrong

My first attempt at swedish log candle this evening using a piece of dead elm, felled about 6 weeks ago (standing dead for a good few years).

Pushed a fire-lighter in to the top and a few bits of kindling over that once it was lit.

Quite windy so kept going out but then re-igniting it self. Turned it round a few times to get an even burn

The last picture taken about 40 mins after lighting
