Is this an Acacia dealbata (Mimosa, Silver Wattle )

 

Never seen one before except maybe in Portugal, it has a trunk similar to a Gum and looks to be a really fast grower. Inner crown is void of live branches and leaf. There is one next door that has evidence of frost damage on it's extremities.

 

Just need to confirm what it is so I can recommend what action to take, it's in a 20ft by 20ft garden.

Defo Dean , there are loads in Londons balmy climate.

 

In that size garden, I'd imagine there will be a need for a regular reduction regime.

There is one on a site I maintain Dean. I`ve never worked on it, so dont know much about them, but, this one is about 60 foot, with 40 foot spread:scared1:

Yes it more or less fills the garden now, I have initially said it is inappropiately planted and really needs to be removed. It's a new housing complex and they have seriously over planted.

 

I said I could reduce the tips back but it would only be a temp measure but because the centre crown is sparse it would look a bit "see through" (new arb term)

 

They have planted a Cherry plum with a Poplar two foot away in such a small garden.
