Best harness for back support?

Main thing for me is back support.

If your looking for genuine back support then the Sierra Moreno Ultralight is the way to go. It is very different from the pelvic support harnesses like the Treemotion and Treeflex as it has a built in lumbar support that's designed to help support the lower spine. Its a well built no-nonsense harness.

Wesspur and Sherril will sell them -

Ive got to replace my old harness (dragonfly). Overall i was happy with it but d rings for side strop got abit pinchy at times and belt buckle loosened after a while which was a nuisance so fancy something new.

Main thing for me is back support. You need your back so im trying to look after it as best as i can.

I looked at the willans with sliding bridge. Bit old school but its a good solid harness. Tree flex sounds good aswell

I know in the end ill have to try them out and see which one suits me best whats good for one isnt another but im interested in peoples opinions of harnesses and back support.

Cheers :001_cool:

I've got a tree flex bought it because my backs screwed. Have no compailnts loads of support very comfortable to have on all day.

I only say clumsy about the weaver as it has big heavy leather straps on the legs, and big buckles etc etc. Fine in the tree, excellent for spiking, has 2 sliding D's etc etc, but once you get our of the tree its a proper PITA. I find I can walk about easily in the treemotion, and hardly know its there. The weaver is heavy in comparison too, but like I say, the back support is almost incomparable. I only really changed because I felt like splashing out on a fancy harness, then tried one on and was persuaded by it....but then I feel old now and think I need a bit of pampering lol!

I know what you mean there tommer i have gone out a few times on a hill walking afternoon only to realize i have put the wrong harness on :001_tt2:. Like some leg loop harness they can pinch and the pain sometimes enhanced by the chunky leather loops, i have to admit i have gone for a tree magic currently as felt a change but find the side d rings not quite so comfy.

Cheers for all your replys :thumbup1:. I stopped by jonesies today and tried out a couple. unfortunately the weaver wasnt there to try but i had a swing in the petzl and skylotec.

Petzl was great for its simplicity but im just making the changeover from a seat harness and for me i think it would get abit uncomfy after a few hours.

Then skylotec which i thought was great. was like an armchair. I was abit particular about back support as the positioning of the bridge on my dragonfly put alot of pressure on the back. The skylotec is differnt though it puts all the weight on the legs and the leg pads are like a seat for each leg. So im happy with that. The real test will be wen im next up a tree so tall that i can see into the neighbours garden but so far was super comfy and thats without all the little adjustments you can make on it.

The biggest downside was that i only wanted to pay 10 quid for it but unfortunatley it was more then that :001_tongue:

No worries mate i saw you was busy. Yeah I look forward to giving it a go tomorrow. Have a big oak tree to start dismantling so should be a good test for it. It feels like the harness to have though. Ill update this thread soon with abit more info.

Or maybe tomorrow if im over enthusiastic about how great it is

Imo the worst thing you could do to your lumbar region is to immobilise it in a big tight waist belt.

Whatever harness you have, try to fit it so that it sits down on your hips and leaves your back free to move as it should.

Obviously if you have back problems then talk to your chosen healthcare professional, but if you want to avoid problems then this is the way forward.

One of my friends has had long ongoing back problems. He climbed in the Sierra Moreno for years and regularly had to go back to osteo with problems. They decided that the problem was in his hamstrings as they connect to the lower back. Possible problem being the leg loops on the SM. He changed to the Kolibri and as far as I know the problems are there but not as frequent.

A solid harness tough but the times I borrowed it I felt it would have been comfier with wider leg loops.
