How would you go about getting into a conifer with no crotch?

looks like ive stirred a hornets nest haha it was a serious thread I was just wondering being a beginner and all sounds like ladders are the solution to everything on here :)

This is not a stupid thread, you asked a good question and got some good answers.

 

I reduced some Norway Spruce last week, I used my throw line and got my line round the main stem and over some small branches.

My friend, Wile E. Coyote, recommends that you order a huge catapult from the ACME Company - plant the catapult in the ground - place oneself into catapult pocket - walk backwards - and whoosh!

 

P.S Be careful you don't whoosh straight into the trunk ..... I think it happened to him once .... or twice ....

Why didn't you use a ladder to the first limb then just climb to your way up using personal line and climbing line?
