AI pay myself £200 per week so you contract climbers get better than me.

 

Maybe you should have been freelance climber rather then run a tree company When I hear the rates some are charging I think that life would be alot easier...

Also don't forget to add in the few own jobs that they do a year. No contract climber i know only does 'Contract climbing' you'd have to be as fool to pass up a quote on a job. But at £100 a day take out all the bits n bobs is still £300 per week in your pocket for 5 days which in fairness you could be on worse. I pay myself £200 per week so you contract climbers get better than me.

 

It must be hard to look like one of Da ali G MASSIVE on that wage. We do the same mate. Running a business does require paying yourself a low wage but I definitely wouldnt work for anyone else. Sure you feel the same.

With the amount of emails and calls I get from lads asking for work I bet there are loads working for less than £90 a day.

 

I was getting £100 but that was 3 years ago.

3 years, with no holiday pay sick pay etc? You are being shafted, you are not a contractor and you are not freelance, you are an employee with no benefits, and I bet you owe some tax? Your "boss" should be paying that for you and if IR cought up that is exactly what would be happening.

i can but my old man works with them, if i go he will lose out on work until they get a new climber. so i cant just leave them.

I think if you are truly considering going freelance climber there are a few things to consider.

 

1.You must be confident that you are at an ability that someone will want to pay for.

 

2.That you are ready to be flexible and have to travel to yards/sites etc.

 

3.That you are ready for a world of difficult,awkward trees that the person you are working for doesn't want to climb.

 

4.That you are good at keeping records and disciplined to keep books and save %30 of what you take.

 

When I think of this I would definitely not work for less than £120 a day.

 

And you are right that you do not have to deal with clients, advertising etc, if you are freelance but still the guys that I know who have got it right charge £150 plus for a reason.

Start up on your own with your old man, then you can complain at what those freelance climbers charge...
