Am I unusual...

It's called common courtesy where I come from. I will always offer any workmen I've got in if they want a drink and will do regularly (probably down to the fact I think that if I treat them well I might get a slightly better job done pr price at the end of it) - does that make me bad? Having said that, when I last moved house I was helping the removal guys offload and carry stuff into the house and they looked at me as if I was mad. I couldn't believe it when they said most people want the chairs in frst so they can sit down while they watch them do all the work. The world is a crazy place.

You were probably the most interesting thing that had happened to them in days or even weeks. It's sad, but making endless tea and snacks for the workers is often some people's (often the elderly's) only social interaction and makes them feel useful again. So drink that tea with pride :thumbup1:

This is very true. I don't do work for youngish people now. To be fair they did provide tea and biccies.

The elderly love a natter over a cuppa.

I know if your working to the clock you have to keep pushing on. If you can spare a few minutes, listening can be a real education.

And yes anyone working here gets put on the tea and cake rota.

A tip well worth knowing in the drinks department,is to always take the tray, and empty mugs/glasses back and knock on the door they came out of with a smile and a thankyou, rather than leave them down the bottom of the garden getting filled with sawdust all day.

That way, the provider may make you some more later in the day, specially if you then say 'we normally stop at 12 for a drink and a sit down' or some such.

one place we do a bit of work in from time to time a woman used to come along with homemade cake and sausage rolls just for a wee bootfull of logs (talking a yaris here!) get tea from time to time not very regularly though, to be honest I dread 'do you want a cup of tea?' cos most of them just bugger off and come back with 4 teas all with milk in :glare: coulda cried one time cos I was gaspin!

We tend to be well treated by most of our customers, apart from one mega wealthy couple who never offer a drop......

We had a big hedgelaying job on that took about a month and the local dog walkers ended up in a cake war. We had three differing couples bringing us homemade cakes and scones. Proper job!

Just had plasters in for a new ceiling on a insurance job, pint mugs of tea, biscuits, bacon rolls, sausage rolls etc . They ended up fixing some broken slabs on the steps and patio, some render around the corner that was falling off and various othere bits and pieces all without being asked, oh and they fixed the roof of the conservatory.
