Cheers Charlie , want to do this weekend mate , getting late for pruning beech now, especially in what's in mind for this one! Thinking I'm gonna bring down to 20ft with some coros , and as Hama suggests halo but want to leave some live growth , hopefully it

Will push out some more live growth below then can bring down stem further in a few years, still interested in ideas for a good successs rate for a heavy pollard / reduction

succses will depend on A) retention of sap risers (growth points) and B) vitality of the tree, not its vigour, the vitality is its health and robustness to stress.

Dont forget to retain as much of the woody volume of the butt as possible, large volumes of dysfunctional (hollowing trunks) are very rare habitat these days, and if at all possible leave a heavy section on trunk say 8-10ft long laying on the ground as this is yet another rare habitat. Big logs in contact with the ground, especially ones that point north to south (shadey one side sunny tuther) also represent a great deal of habitat potential.

Ok tree is done !! a few coros and fractures to make it look a bit more natural I think suited the tree better in this landscape aesthetically to the eye as well as hope fully offering other opportunity's , the middle corro on the tree was achieved by burying a 20 " bar to an angle and cutting out 3" groves was pleases with the result.
