Importing from US.

I'm looking at some interesting machinery in the US at the moment. Shipping is expensive but it still works out cheaper than buying at home. I'm presuming nothing on that side of the pond is CE marked so would I be using illegal equipment? I specifically refer to possible problems with insurance.

remember import taxes bump up the price! for a $500 saw, the import VAT will be around £80

CE marking could be a problem, also you won't have a warranty!

You'll also get absolutely NO sympathy from the UK importer/ distributor in the event of something going wrong..

worth checking your insurance for using non CE marked equipment,,

not worth the hassle,,

just support the UK industry instead....

IF you get towable stuff, not only the lights need changing but often the braking system needs attention and check out tyre dealers in East Anglia for american tyres (or any near USAF bases) , our tree surgeons brought some chippers over when the main dealer in this country was asking silly money for 18" chippers.

Rock and Dirt is one hell of a read for all mechanical stuff.
