Pruning spring bleeders

A bleeding wound shouldn't affect overall tree health or vitality due to the loss of sap. When you think about it, due to the organisation of the vascular system that carries specific nutrient flow from roots to shoots, the sap lost is only the sap that "fed" the specific limb that has been removed.

As far as I know the rest of the tree does not lose out on its food as a result...

Boil it down and you can make a type of birch syrup.............

... which tastes equally horrible as the sap itself. Just more concentrated.

I could tell you what it tastes like, but it would be against forum rules (foul language), so would possibly be deleted by forum moderators :blushing:

Well you need to use Silver Birch not the Downy Birch. Then no problem with the taste.
