To Mulch, or not to Mulch?

I've had Lee come in to do some radial trenching on an veteran oak this year, got to say it looks in fine form now. I read up on the various treatments, spoke to Lee at length as to what treatment each tree on the property required, and I feel that each individual tree was treated in the correct manner.

Good to see the Eastwood boys at the APF, and yes Mick is still at the helm these days, tho not the owner of the business any more. Eastwoods were certainly the first in East Anglia offering this type of service, so have extensive experience in the field.

yes mick was in the press doing this sort of work on a beech tree in woodbrige:001_smile:

David, I must confess to being a bit miffed.

I feel one of the prime requirements for tree research/work should be patience. I was looking forward to some fundamentally profound improvements in this tree's well being after your superlative job of mulching.

Now, when you see dramatic results how can you put your finger on the causal agent? I have no gripes with Mr. Winger, he is a very knowledgeable guy with a good service. But couldn't you have used him on a tree that wasn't mulched??

Can you elaborate a little on the procedure? Was it just aeration or, (gulp) something more?

In the name of Anglo-American co-operation, I humbly appologise for being the protagonist of your percieved "Miffedness"

Your point is well made Dave, and one I confess, that was not regarded. :blushing:

However, I feel patience is not a comodity that is plentiful with this Old girl, hence the addition.

Ftr, the proceedure was "just" aeration, and the opportunity was there as a result of Mr Winger being Contracted in for a week at a Sister site.

The Tree-Riveter injects air at various depths upto 500mm, this is spread out across the target area at 2/3ft spacings.

Not shown in the photos, but the application was carried out an additional few feet outside the mulch area also.

Lets hope for the aforementioned "dramatic results"

Either way I'll post the pictoral evidence. :001_smile::sad::001_smile:

Rest assured amigo, Arbor Aeration only use's man made fertilizer, under certain circumstances, and never on trees such as MonkeyD's pear, we aerated and nothing more......

Please note folks 'Arbor Aeration' very rarely uses synthetic ferts, choosing, aeration, mulch, and natural organic slow release ferts, tree health care is a long road chaps and i'm only just out of the garden gate........:001_smile:

Good to hear, Lee.

I realize that from my previous post that there are many who might assume that I am just another grumpy old guy. Nothing could be further from the truth. :001_tongue: Really! A child at heart.

Hope the tree does well. Appreciate your keeping us updated, David.
