Short for Valdotain Tresse mate. Knot tied with an eye to eye split tail and a micro pulley.:001_smile: Self tends when there is enough weight below the knot.

It's a hitch you can tune to suite your needs! With a pulley or hitch climber behind it you only need one hand on the rope to come back in from a branch walk.you sort of body thrust and pull up on both hands to ascend ,stops that nasty elbow from prussic climbing! Had to brace up and dead wood 25 meter beech today so had the hitch set on three braids for the ascent so I could climb arm over arm and not have to pull the tail of the hitch through it and it self tended but you had to set it by pushing forward to make it grip, once I got an anchore point put an extra wrap on to make it set by itself and work confidently .although in the top third of the canopy it pulled the slack through even with the extra wrap due to the weight of the rope... Hard to explain there's videos rich rule steve b and mick stock bridge on u tube if you search hard you should find a vid of the world champ climbing on it that show it to it's full potential!! but basically the knot does not lock up and flows so smooth !!!!

youve just won your first bit towards a vt hitchclimber setup, id say thats as good an excuse as any to give it a try. the benifits to your elbows will be well worth it. i would recommend watching the videos and if possible have someone show you and talk you through its makeup and use. not to sound patronising but despite your experience this is a new technique to you and an advance technique. best of luck.

how is this diffrent from my ring strop? is it a diffrent material...or is it more adaptable?

It has 2 spliced eyes instead of being a loop. I don't know what material you are using, but Armor Prus has a very high melting point so it means it lasts longer as long as you don't bomb it out of the tree. As Matty says, When its tied, The vt break to allow the rope to move through it and when weight is put in the system, it grips.
