Found this lovely old oak a couple of years ago at Helmsley, North Yorks. Poor quality pic, but how old would you guess this to be?

My guess would be around 400 :001_smile:

I think it's about 600 pete, I can remember seeing it as a sapling in a past life as a highway robber.

 

Heres dedication for you, been back to the said tree and here it is in its full glory earlier today;

Did lots of asking around, and finally found the head grounds man, a grey haired wierdy beardy sort, told me he planted it as a two year old sapling back in 1417.

 

So by my reconing it must be around 594 years old:001_tongue:

Yeh, thats the man, d'you know him David?

 

 

Certainly was a strange old fella, used to do a bit of coppicing for him back in the 1500's

 

 

Ol' Tom Bombadillo,

his boots were blue

and his hat was yellow

 

or was it the other way round mmmmm!

 

 

T'was his jacket that was blue, and his boots that were a yella :001_smile:
