landy winch

A little imput from anyone with some experience of my latest idear would be good.

landrover130 that i have fitted a superwinch h14 gear driven winch onto..

would it work if i made some fold down spades simlar to wot are on my boughton and fitted them onto the bumper so that i dont have to rely on the landy brakes and so tire grip to hold me in place while pulling in the load, in theary this willsave as much pull on the mounting bolts and the rail ends.

you can buy ground anchors so i guess in theory your idea would work, might add some weight to the vehicle though.

what about a big set of wheel chocks?

all the ground anchors i have found would have to go behind the landy to hold it in place and she is long enough without trying to steretch her any more.

had some wheel chocks that worked ok till i put bigger tires on and now she tries to climb over them so back to relying on brakes.

when pulling trees over and the wire is heading upward from the landrover it helps to put them on the rear axle rather than the front.

 

im sure some kinda spade think that pivits on the front axle could be knocked up easy enough

what about a ground anchor knocked in, then drive over it, with it in the middle then fasten it to tow points on the bumper? thought of doing this myslef but never needed too yet.

i take it your moving logs around? rather than pulling trees over. ive yet to have a problem pulling trees over and mines only a 90 so less weight.

Attach a ground anchor to the underside of the winch , but TBH your clutch on the PTO of the winch will cut in before you damage your chassis. Its a landy FFS! I have been putting my H14 PTO on its knees for years with no chassis damage, doing exactly what you are doing. You'll be fine...the only pitfall is if you have a drop plate/ adjustable height towbar make sure it is on the highest setting if you are attaching it to the anchor...

If you decide to use a ground anchor these are without doubt the best for many reasons, we use them for competition and work. They are the most poplar make, light, strong and reasonable price. The downside is they are a bit awkward to store.
