Just had a thought and wondered what you guys thought!

 

As you all know for a climber to be in a tree you should have someone on the ground with the relevent climbing NPTC tickets.

 

So if the climber who needs rescuing is unconscius and the rescuing groundi/climber leaves the ground that then means that if they dont have another tickited guy on the ground and they then become injured and cant desend, are braking HSE guidlines?

Surely the important distinction is that the original climber was up the tree using a chainsaw whereas the rescuer is not?

I dont think it matters wether they are using a chainsaw, silky or doing a climbing inspection, just the fact that 1 person is in the tree in a rope and harness.

the thought occured to me that the rescuer has to decide if it is safe enough for them to enter the tree and perform the rescue.

 

also if the rescuer can be belayed by someone on the ground then would that help as if they fell unconsious they could be lowered to the ground *if it was completley clear beneath them.

I think some common sense needs to be applied. Its extremely rare that a rescuer need sot rescue someone in the first place, let alone need rescuing himself.

 

Havign a rescuer on site is a good thing, havign a rescuer for the rescuer is just daft. There are still very few cases known of where an arerial rescue has been carried out and a person saved as a result.

 

There are cases where no rescue was done and the injured party died, and so rescue training is a good idea, but those companies with rescue trained employees are already way less likely to ever need them.

i worked for a guy who was crushed in a tree (when he was already climbing on a broken back without realising) and then had to get him self down as his groundy didnt have ariel rescue, and then had to phone his own ambulance as his groundie was in shock, he is still climbing now, i dont no how he still has the guts to climb after that

thats what I thought, surely you could go down the road of a rescue needing a rescue needing a rescue and so on
