It happened exactly that way close to me last winter, a guy wanted a hedge taken out ,it was road side on a sharp bend about 30 to 40ft high about 40 yards long with a phone line running through it.From memory he got 200 pounds for it.

I wish I had someone like that near me, easy money, when work comes in, charge the customer cheap rate, then sub him in for free,

sit - watch read the paper, collect the cheque at end of day

The customers will be selling us their trees next.

Welcome to the real hard world of forestry then where we have to purchase large sections of woodland trees standing:001_rolleyes: and then the landowners want it over a weighbridge when fresh and the sawmill when seasoned.

Tree surgeons have been spoilt too long with being paid for doing the tree work and keeping the wood to convert for expensive logs free:001_huh:

At least we can legally run on "Red" diesel:thumbup::thumbup:

I came across this last year I was asked to fell a small wood about 200ish trees all med to large fell the guy asked us to do it on a day rate so I gave him a price. stated the work and towards the end of the job he said that we took to long. found out the next day that he was doing it for free as he sold log wood. but to cut a long story short he did not want to pay as it cost him more to transport the wood than he thought he only paid us half in the end was not happy!!

Alot of the site clearance work we do they want to know how much the wood is worth and take it off the price of the job

Well I'm felling lots of Ash for a nature reserve and they don't care what I do with the wood. Told me to either take or burn up ten tons of seasoned Oak that's been used as a border around some ancient burial mounds too

The lad probably get lots of add on work, not too many straight fells in the domestic world, also a bit of blagging about access issues ect and you talk the cutomer into paying for your time...... can't knock him if he's legit
