Not necessarily ash though, but its possible as its the obvious host.

 

 

I've seen it on beech & have read that alder and cherry also host

Came across what i strongly suspect to be immature Daldinia on a Tree of Heaven last week. It was dark but am going back to the house where the tree was. They were starting to blacken and had the tell tale concentric rings. Will keep you posted.:001_smile:

Inonotus Dryadeus on Oak ? Sounds like the decay is quite established at the base of the stem, plenty of epicormic shoots on all branches and substantial deadwood visible. No targets so will just watch this one. :thumbup:

When you say sounds, did you use anything specific to listen to?
