First Aid Kits on Harness

This will probably kick up a storm.

I've posted it here because I didn't want to hijack the charity thread.

I carry three or four field dressings with me, in the vehicles and in the tool boxes, they are always to hand.

I don't agree with and have never carried one on my harness, I personally don't see the point.

If I injure myself in the tree I would self rescue and deal with it on the ground where things would be easier.

If I couldn't self rescue I think it would be unlikely I'd be in a position to administer first aid on myself.

If I had an arterial bleed on an extremity, I'd whip my belt round the injured limb to tornoquet it.

How many that do carry first aid kits have used them in the Tree to the extent where they couldn't do anything else.

what would you do if you came to rescue me

go and get a first aid kit from the landrover half a mile away

or come straight away upto me and either use mine or the one you should have on your harness

its handy for little things like silky cuts. if you have to rescue someone its good to have a compression bandage or such so that when you climb up to them you can imediately do something for them, if its a real bad cut every second will count. if you cut yourself its the same deal. and like mb said, its not like they take up much room. and it for me it makes the treemotion fit a little bit better as the first aid kit fits into the small of your back.

A: Improvise (something we should all be able to do)

B: Get the kit from the tool box 10ft away.

why do either when your first aid kit is already on your harness?

First aid training should teach improvisation.

Otherwise we'd be all stuffed if we came across a casualty in the middle of no-where and we didn't have a first aid kit or field dressing.

Shock horror what would we do without one :001_tongue:
