MB Trac and Crane Rebuild. Any Advice

I have just bought an MB Trac 800 with seized engine, and has an atlas crane mounted on rear. The machine was originally used for erecting agricultral sheds.

I would like some advice on the following:-

1. Who would you recommend for engine spares/rebuild

I have removed crank which will need regrinding etc. Bottom end rebuild!

2.Any ideas on mounting a timber grab on crane?

Obviously will require repiping and new valve block...is it going to be worth the faff!

Ok. Some say I was a muppet buying it in the first place, but it was cheap and with a bit of luck it could be my all in one machine!!:001_rolleyes:

Based in Devon.

I think that's the road I might take. However would try and retain the legs as I think the usual triangular leg set up on forestry 3pl cranes would be a nightmare to adapt......However will start off with lifting chains initially because I am now at the age that anything is better than logging and chucking!! Thanks for your input

The engine will be pricey... and the crane even more so.

Sounds like an interesting piece of kit, and would certainly be good if working.

I would have thought for the money it will cost you, you'd be better off removing the crane entirely, and buying a standard timber crane on a 3pl.

As for the engine, try Atkinson Vos, Park Agri, AC Price etc.

You may also get a nice surprise from your local Mercedes dealer once in a while.

Good luck with her!

there is also IBBETS not far from me tim quite often has good used engines. if the engine has seized it may well need reboring and pistons, i have just rebuilt my engine as i put in another thread total cost for parts and machining was about £1800 then i built the engine up saving a lot more cash
