It's not so much the flat cuts that I'm failing on..they are more or less OK..I can't get the angles right. I loose control of the saw at 45 degrees and somehow end up with a sawdust rather than nice shavings and the first cut going in too deep/not deep enough at the wrong angle and allothertheplace..I'm working on it though

From the sounds of things you are putting to much presure on yourself, sometimes people take to it, like ducks to water others take that little bit longer. just relax take your time and listen to what the instructor tells you.I read your comment about fluffing the test. The worst thing you can do is worry about an assessment mid way through the course, forget the test and enjoy the training.

The dust is because you are cutting against the grain...

 

Glad you found the marking out helpful. Try and make the gob clean so there isn't any lips on there. Make sure it's clean before you start the back cut otherwise you won't impress the assessor.

 

You will be fine on Monday mate, what does your tutor say? Is it a 5 day course?

After taking some of your advice on board and pressing correct leavers in the brain I kind of got things going today

 

And it's all OF COURSE mainly thanks to the most incredible and amazingly awesome, unbelievably lovely and super fantastic instructor (I know you r reading this YOU )

 

Test on Monday..We'll see how it goes

one little tip i can give you is, after gutting your gop cut.... draw a chalk line around the tree so you can see where you need to be, where you need to stop, you could draw your gop if you need to ..... hope this helps

Good advice, I recommended he do it with the saw though, then it is just one continuous operation rather than stop and use chalk then start the saw again etc.

its all down to the tutor, when i advised you pencoed college, the reason was for intructors are very good.

They are good..Well at least the one we had was good It's just the 5 day course I don't was long enough. Two more days and I would be chopping those trees down no worse than any other prof
