Flippin goverment, the only downturn to this glorious nation is our lack of ability to dig our heels in and stand up for ourselves. I admit, if we did, we'd be as bad as the french. Just the british way i suppose, stiff upper lip and all... Whatever happened to the nation that ruled the world? A bit of anarchy and a big fat road block around london might help. I mean, can you ever see fuel prices dropping to below a pound a litre again?

Mr Ed's comment on personal debt is true, I've heard many a tale about people borrowing huge amounts on their credit card or on the knock because they want it now. Personally I apply the three mantras, Do I need it?, Can I afford it?, Can I get it cheaper elsewhere?. I'm not tight, but take a more sensibly view. After buying a house in '87 when mortagage rates were at 15.5% and the repayments on a borrowing of £35k were over £400 a month I soon left the "Have it now" crowd. I makes me very cross that these irresponsible lot (include the present government) are making the more prudent amongst us pay for their cock-ups.

there must be a few out there who are benefiting from this, it's a cheap time to build, the bubble had to burst sooner or later. like a little sapling in a forest waiting for a big tree to fall(i've been watching too much karate kid). housing was getting ridiculous. this might work in our favour for some of us. cheaper tradies.

Good move fella, sooo many people are busting a gut to get on the "property ladder". I wonder how many will cope. A couple of different friends of mine are now desperatly seeking housemates to help with the mortgage. All those programs on the telly in the last few years about making money on renovation and second property will have been very little help to many. Only time will tell how bad it will get.
